As a power computer user you surely leave your PC for some time to do certain tasks, be it audio/video processing, file sharing, or downloading. There is no way of knowing when your computer can go to sleep so the old school shutdown-no-matter-what programs are probably getting to you. In addition, many of those are either too simple or too complex for a power-off utility to do what it has to do. Smart Bomb PC Shutdown may be what you are looking for. It is a dynamic shutdown utility that will power-off your computer when needed.
At first glance Smart Bomb may look like a very simple utility. Maybe too simple? That's because it makes its own decision as to when the power-off has to occur.
HOW IT WORKS
Simply set the time when your PC has to be shut down. When the time comes, Smart Bomb "sensors" kick in. The program has two sensors - one that monitors the CPU and another monitors all web activity, meaning all ports, uploads or downloads. You can set the amount of CPU load below which the app will consider the CPU idle. Also, you can set the amount of time during which Internet transfers need to be idle for shutdown to occur. Those two can be even used together. Imagine being able to start a video/audio file conversion and a big download at once, knowing that the computer will power-off only when the two processes halt completely.
WHAT ELSE?
If that wasn't enough, Smart Bomb can put your computer into the "stand-by" mode, which takes away the power from most of computer's components. It supports forced, not forced stand-by modes, with either powered or not powered RAM. Smart Bomb also features a full-blown CPU history in form of a graph, a graphical representation of internet transfers, and a preset manager. All this to make you more aware of what is going on and what the application "senses". The features are available from the View menu.
Don't let your computer work for no reason at all, consuming power. Cooling fans and hard drives will not spin forever, so get the doctor recommended Smart Bomb and go to sleep knowing that your machine will get all the sleep it can. So, PC still on?
DETAILS AND LIMITATIONS
Smart Bomb can be set to maximum of 999 hours and 99 minutes. Internet connection idle time can be set from 0 to 999 seconds before PC is turned off. CPU is considered idle after 15 seconds of below-threshold load (specified by user in percent value). Only the first processor is taken into account on multi-CPU systems.
